While BilzCal has one-click connection for Gmail and Outlook, you can connect any email provider using IMAP. Here's how.
What Is IMAP?
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a standard way to access email. Every email provider supports it, making it universal.
Finding Your IMAP Settings
Check your email provider's help pages for: - IMAP Server (e.g., imap.mail.yahoo.com) - Port (usually 993 for SSL) - Username (usually your full email address) - Password (may need an "app password")
Common IMAP Settings
| Provider | Server | Port |
|---|---|---|
| Yahoo | imap.mail.yahoo.com | 993 |
| AOL | imap.aol.com | 993 |
| iCloud | imap.mail.me.com | 993 |
| Zoho | imap.zoho.com | 993 |
App Passwords
Many providers require an "app password" instead of your regular password when connecting via IMAP:
- Go to your email provider's security settings
- Enable two-factor authentication (if not already)
- Generate an "app password" or "app-specific password"
- Use this generated password in BilzCal
Connecting in BilzCal
- Go to Email Sources
- Click Connect via IMAP
- Enter your IMAP server, port, username, and app password
- BilzCal tests the connection
- If successful, scanning begins immediately
Troubleshooting
- - Connection refused: Double-check server address and port
- - Authentication failed: Use app password, not regular password
- - No bills found: Check that bill notifications go to this email address
- - Slow scanning: First scan processes recent emails; subsequent scans are faster
