When AI scans your email for bills, sender rules tell it how to categorize what it finds. Set them up once and every future detection from that sender is automatically categorized.
What Are Sender Rules?
A sender rule maps an email sender pattern to a budget category. For example:
- - Emails from "noreply@electric-company.com" → Utilities category
- - Emails from "*@netflix.com" → Subscriptions category
- - Emails from "billing@insurance.com" → Insurance category
How to Set Up Rules
- Go to Email Sources in your sidebar
- Click Sender Rules
- Add a sender pattern and select the category
- Future email detections from matching senders are auto-categorized
Pattern Matching Tips
- - Use exact email addresses for specific senders
- - Use wildcards (*) for senders with multiple addresses
- - Use domain patterns (e.g., "*@company.com") for companies with various notification addresses
Benefits
- - Zero manual work after initial setup
- - Consistent categorization — no guessing which category
- - Faster review — pre-categorized detections need less attention
- - Better reports — accurate categorization means accurate spending insights
When Detections Don't Match Rules
Unmatched detections appear in your Review inbox without a category. You can: 1. Categorize them manually 2. Create a new rule for that sender 3. Dismiss false positives
